A Guide to the Iraq Oil Law

Many have suspicions about Big Oil, President Bush, and the Iraq Oil Law, but facts have been hard to find. Here’s an excellent guide to who, what, and why; especially why the Iraq Oil law is not mainly about the Shiites, Sunnis, and Kurds sharing revenues, but about mainly-US corporate oil giants gaining control of the oil resources of the Iraqi people.

In theory, such arrangements protect the host nation from loss. Corporations are given big profits in exchange for bearing the risk that exploration and development come up empty.

What’s the chance of that happening in Iraq?

It’s a serious business. I think peace in this generation is unlikely if this reprehensible plan becomes law. Might be worth signing the petition here, and emailing your government representative.

  1. That oil law is the worst piece of work the corporateers ever inflicted on any country, except our own. The oil companies just want to do to the people of Iraq, what they have been doing to us here in the US for decades:

    Rob us blind…

The scientifically impossible I do right away
The spiritually miraculous takes a bit longer
