Perhaps you recall my recommendation of Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Mission to Fight Terrorism and Build Nations … One School at a Time (see Books Not Bombs). Greg Mortenson, its author, will read from it in Iowa City, and be broadcast live on University of Iowa radio, WSUI-AM (890, I believe; on the internet here). Details:

Title of Event: GREGG MORTENSON
Mountain climber Gregg Mortenson, will read from his book, 3 Cups of Tea. He was returning from a failed climb when he was taken in by tribal Pakistanis. He has since repaid their kindness by building 55 schools for girls in the Karakorum mountains. “Thrilling…proof that one ordinary person with the right combination of character and determination, really can change the world.” –Tom Brokaw

  2. Dear Monte, we need more of these fairy tales before people become too bitter by too much violence. Thanks for reminding us of some of the possible good things :)
I am watching this at Fanonite’s. I just thought it might interest you.
